I subscribe to the Whole Dog Journal and as a subscriber, they have a dog food rating pamphlet. I just checked it for you, among the top rated brands are Blue Buffalo, By Nature Organics, California Natural, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul, Eagle Pack Holistic Select among others. Actually, Merricks is at the botton of the list, but it is there.

I cook for my dogs and use Dr. Harveys Canine Health. Its a freeze dried premix and you add protein (meat or chicken) oils for EFA. Its fast and easy.

Since I have several dogs, we vary their diet and I use Chicken Soup canned and Eagle Pack Holistic for kibble.
