Oh as far as when it is time to do surgery - you should just see a specialist. We had a consult back in January and she said they would do both legs and gave me an estimate for the surgery. She called it "elective" saying that you don't have to get it done but they will get arthritis early and in Sam's case it did affect her ability to walk. She is almost 2, so they put her in the puppy category. It sounds like they like to do it when before they are 2 but I would go get checked now. We waited until now thinking the weather would be better and it did snow the first day we had her home but now it's 45 which is a lot better than snow! We do have to carry her outside to pee so that was a factor. Also I'm off work this whole week so that helped us decide. We wanted her all better by summer too!
