What is a "hobby" breeder really? To me that means breeding is a hobby, not a business, which is good I guess. But to me I think a hobby breeder could be a show breeder or a BYB...it's just someone who doesn't breed for profit. I don't see it as a separate breeder category in itself. I believe in breeding for only these reasons: to breed excellent examples of the breed (in health and conformation), to preserve the breed, and constantly strive to improve the breed. I only believe show-quality dogs should be bred (not that they necessarily have to be shown but that they have to be of that quality) and that they have to be 100% heathy. If a breeder isn't breeding quality dogs and isn't heath screening then to me they are a BYB (not saying you are or aren't one..don't know your breeding program or goals)..but that is how I personally feel

Purchasing from backyard breeders, pet shops, and puppymills perpetuates the suffering of other dogs.
Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
