Zander is trained to go potty outside. When I go to work I leave him in an xpen with a pad. That way if I am stuck in traffic or whatever and he absolutely can't wait anymore, the pad is there for him. To avoid odors to the floor or if he slightly misses the pad, I have a big thick clear plastic under the xpen, I pinch the pad with the edge of the xpen, or he will take it and play with it. ;D When I am home there is no pad on the floor, he will smack the bells on the back door and let me know he has to go outside.
