I don't like to trim the hair around eyes bc I don't like a scissors near the eye and I like a more natural look. Also, trimming doesn't necessarily mean the tearing will decrease.

Since your baby is a pup - he may be tearing more because he is teething - they will often tear more when some teeth start to poke through (or, try to poke through), so keep that in mind as well. If there IS an excessive smell in his ears and from his eye dishcharge - then the vet should check for a yeast infection.
