I think that they are capable of getting mad depending on their personalities. I know my lil one knows when I am picking her up in the morning to put her in her xpen so I can go to work and she will turn her head away from me when I ask for sweetness (kisses). It's just to cute, it's like she's saying I'm not going to give you kisses cuz your going to be leaving me again....she does however get over it and smothers me with kisses when I get back home
