Dry food has very little to do with plaque build-up cleaning. The wet may or may not help build tartar up faster but the dry doesn't necessarily clean them. I brush Ellie's teeth everyday and use OraVet once a week (have you talked to your vet about this?) and she gets wet food (homecooked). She got her teeth cleaned 9 months after her first cleaning only because she was under anyway. They weren't that bad. I wouldn't be too worried about feeding canned food as long as you are brushing the teeth very thoroughly everyday and that needs to be done when they eat kibble anyway...
