Sarasota, FL - Law enforcement officers get all kinds of training. But no one thought to prepare Charlotte County sheriff's Deputy Casey Roberts for what he encountered Monday afternoon -- a dog left unconscious after a car crash.
Roberts reports that he was driving in his personal car when he came upon a two-car wreck. The human passengers did not appear to have life-threatening injuries. But Oso, a Yorkshire terrier who was apparently hit by an exploding air bag, was barely breathing.
Roberts put the dog in his car and headed for a veterinarian. Then Oso stopped breathing and his eyes rolled back in his head.
Luckily, Roberts remembered an episode of the television show "Rescue 911" where a dog was revived through mouth-to-snout resuscitation. After Roberts' sixth breath into the dog's snout, Oso began to breathe again.
Oso, whose owners live in Naples, was released from the animal clinic on Tuesday morning, Roberts reported.
