Something soft is best with the little ones and you have to give really tiny amounts. I start with a jar of baby food and I put some on the lid and give them that as a treat. When they're older, I give them homemade salmon treats, but again, very small, crumb-size bits. I have had to weigh the ones I'm training on a regular basis and they can gain weight pretty fast. Cheese can work or bits of cooked chicken. A favorite "bait" in the show ring out here is chicken breast cooked in the microwave with a bit of salt. It's very much healthier than most of the commercial treats and very easy. You can cut it up into very small bits or you can pinch of little pieces.
With these little dogs (especially the puppies), it gets to be a real challenge to give them treats without making them sick, getting them fat or having them lose interest because they're full.
