I know raw fed dogs will often run a higher BUN, but I don't know if that holds true to high protein kibble as well (see:

Dehydration can sometimes elevate it as well. Was the blood taken the morning of the surgery? Did you withhold food/water since the night before?
I would talk to your vet and find out what the next step is....
