We travel with Oscar all the time. We never leave him in the hotel tho. We have a soft collapsible crate we keep in the truck and it has his bed and toys in it. When we leave the truck, we tuck him in there and he is happy while we are gone. It is a diesel so if it is hot or cold, we can leave it running to keep him comfortable. I just don't like the thought of leaving him alone. You never know who might come in there while you are gone or if your puppy will pitch a fit and disturb the neighbors. You might return to your room and find out that you have been kicked out!!!
