Dim Sum is 5 months old and he is doing actually really good in terms of house training. However when we go out, if its just for a couple hours I would use the crate. If its for the evening or longer I would try to block off the kitchen for him to use. However every time we have tried to block off something for him he has gotten out while we were away.

The strange part is that when he gets out he does nothing in the house. I think he just likes laying at the door. Everytime he has gotten out we did a good search of the house and found that he didn't mess with anything.

We are about to go out for the evening now and I am going to try and gate him in the laundry with his pee pad and toys etc... I know he will probably bark and whine like crazy but I hope he won't find a way out this time. Last time he ate through the gate... we have a stronger gate now.
