I have read it in several places, so perhaps it has to do with the combination of bleach and ammonia in carpets? Sorry if that isnt the case, just what I have read.

The OP wanted to know if she could continue using bleach for cleaning, and if it was safe. I didn't take it to mean she wanted to know what to use for urine spots. You are correct in say that bleach is not effective for removing all the smells in dog's urine, and this needs to be done or the dog will continue to return to that spot. You do need an enzyme cleaner for that. This is something that actually "eats" the proteins in urine, blood, feces, etc. I'm not familiar with the product some have mentioned Odoban, I use Simple Solution, but you all have made me mighty curious about Odoban.

Bleach of course should never be used on carpets, I know Simple Solution is safe, how about Odoban is it just a hard surface cleaner or can it be used on carpets?
