Like anything, I like to do a little research before buying anything - especially a living creature. So while im sitting here at work, ive been reading through the old posts here on the forums and the FAQ's =)

I do have a somewhat simple question about pricing of Yorkies - I do understand that prices will vary due to many variables, but can anyone give their opinion on the low to high prices that one can expect? The highest I have seen so far has been $3500 - OUCH!
As with anything, price and quality usually go hand in hand. AKC registry, champion parents, smaller size (under 3 lbs), full registration vs limited registration all cost more. A well bred male puppy expected to be standard size (5-6 lbs) in California should go for no less than $1,500 with limited registration (no papers for progeny if bred and no eligibility for shows). A puppy sold as a show prospect can go for $3,500 - $5,000. A finished champion should bring $10,000+.

Having said that, an older, speutered adult with no papers (or pet registry) should be no more than $250-$300. There is everything in between available. Choose a smaller individual if you want to travel with them. Choose a larger one if you want to do obedience competition or breed or if you have small children. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you need to have a clear idea of how you will be living with your Yorkie so that when you call about puppies, you can tell the breeder exactly what you're looking for.
Find a breeder with a good reputation you trust and put yourself in their hands.

Good luck and have fun!
