The serious ones will bid at the very last second..... that's what I do. I have my absolute highest amount I'm willing to pay and at the last second I enter that as a proxy bid. That doesn't mean I have to pay that amount. It means that the system will automatically make my bid just slightly higher than the other highest bidder.... up to my proxy amount.
