There was NO WAY he climbed over because he is an old man. So I put him in there and watched. He immediately dove in the 3" gap between the refrigerator and the cabinet and was making his way behind the refrigerator!
Such an escape would have required him to climb over a big pile of paper bags, make a 90-degree turn, climb over a mouse trap (without springing it) and squeeze through a gap of 2-3" in the back.
