Yes, they're anesthetized and some vets recommend it every 6 months to a year (if there is a need). If you brush often, you can try to avoid professional cleanings. The baby teeth are usually cleaned during spay/neuter. It can be done at the same time as cleaning. A dental here would be about $165 plus anesthesia and bloodwork. Ellie's periodontal surgery (with 9 extractions and xrays) was $600.
