 Make it a game
Does your yorkie ever chase you or want you to chase her --- during play?
That is what you have to do with the lead. What I did when I started walking Jaya and Jenna, was to first start out getting them hyped up and in play mode. Then I'd run ahead and they immediately began to chase. If you have a gated yard, you can also just have them chase you around. Then put on their lead, and do the same thing.
Now I just walk, and they know to follow.
Jaya is 9 months and she knows what to do...Jenna is 5 months and she still likes to explore -so i have to be a little more firm on her.
But to introduce walking to them, just make a game out of it. |
