It's normal to see grey coming through on a Yorkie's head at about 6 to 8 weeks. You may also see some grey breaking on their back if you look close to the skin. The grey on the head should start to change to more of a golden color at around 9 months, but this may vary. The hair on the back will show more grey (silver) coming through but the amount of this will vary depending on the dog's ultimate color. Some go completely silver on their back, others will remain black, but the standard is for a dark steel blue color. Most Yorkies tend to lighten up on their backs until about 3 years of age.
