I would leave him with family. I'm going to California next month and wanted to bring my furbabies, but the reason I decided not to was I don't feel comfortable leaving them in a hotel with out me. Yorkie theft scares me a lot, I'm kinda paranoid (better to be safe than sorry though!) And think of all the hotel workers that have access to the rooms when your not there.
Just make sure you call and check up on your baby every day! That definitly helps a little bit with missing them.
