Duffy gets the cough (hacking, reverse sneezing, etc.) every time he gets the vaccine for kennel cough (every 6 months). He used to get the inhaled one. The first time he got it it he ended up with a respritory infection. My vet said to be sure he gets the injectable ones from now on because they don't ususally react to them. The other doctor in my vet's office said that unless he is face to face with strange dogs (i.e. dog park or kennel) I may not want to give him that shot. Good luck.
