on dogs, you don't count from the time they had pups, you count from their last heat cycle..if they have one every 6 mos. and say it was in heat in June and had pups in August, come Dec. it would be in heat again. that poor baby..to me, by the time they're 5, they should be retired and just be loved as a pet...I hate seeing dogs being used over and over for breeding, makes me want to cry
