There are two different sides to this. Some people say dogs are carnivores and therefore should eat almost all protein. Others say all that protein isn't good for them. High protein has never been shown to CAUSE kidney problems (I don't think liver problems either). You should discontinue high protein food if a liver or kidney problem is found. I prefer to give lower protein anyway but it is a personal preference.
