Yes, even expert breeders such as Anne Seranne and Terri Shumsky are now say to not change a bitch in whelps food, not even increasing it until the last 3 weeks. I free feed my 8 so the gals can increase their intake as the need arises and I haven't had any problem with them getting too heavy so far. I think that as the quality of kibble has increased the need to switch to puppy food or to suppliment in other ways has decreased. As long as you are feeding an excellent quality kibble you should be okay. You can get the books I've mentioned on Amazon. Myra also has a book and DVD on acute puppy care that you will find useful.
