I had my yorkie spayed when she was 4 1/2 months. I think she weighed almost 4 pounds. The vet explained that it was better for them to be fixed before their first heat, so I took his advice. Apparently there's a greater chance of developing cancer in their mammary glands. Basically breast cancer for dogs. She did just fine with the surgery. She had a stitch reaction but that was minor. I'm glad I had it done when she was little. She stayed overnight and was fine. The vet explained that she would sleep the whole night and wouldn't even know she was there. When I got her the next day, she was very content and very happy to see her mommy! I carried her up and down the stairs the first few days, and helped her up in chairs and things. She really did pretty good with healing. I just made sure that I didn't get her riled up or anything.
