Default aggression

Rusty gets very aggressive over a piece of chicken with a bone, a rat, a baby bird, a feather, a walnut....things he should not have. He tries to bite whoever tries to take the thing away. I have no bits of advice because we have not conquered that problem. Offering him treats in trade will not help as he turns up his nose at the treats.

He is after all, a dog, and we have to treat him like a dog. The last thing was a walnut that he got aggressive over. I won that battle by talking like the walnut was a ball and pretending I wanted to play fetch with the ball. When Rusty realized that the walnut was nothing to fight over but a toy to fetch, he let me have it and throw it and we played with the walnut.

Anything he finds outside or in is something that he foraged for and he will not give it up easily the first time.
We have to be very careful to not let him see our worriedness about him. If it is something we want to take, I think he considers that we want to take it and he will growl, snap and bite at us...to keep it.

We have just learned to be careful when he gets like that.
Other than that, he is the sweetest, laid back little boy you ever saw.
