| Shelby started PT today.... really interesting! Just to Update:
Shelby had Luxating patella surgery on the 21st of Feb. on both back legs. Today she went to a rehabilitation center to start physical therapy.
I found that is was really interesting. The veterinarian checked her over... everything still in place and surgery was successful. Then she proceded to check her mucles and tendons. Because Shelby's patellas were luxated, she was using the muscles on the outside of her upper legs, but not using the ones on the inner thighs as much (kind of like when you are in a cast for a long time and your muscle mass gets smaller). ANYWAY, now that her knees are back where they need to be, she has to strengthen those muscles that she didn't use as much.
She has a pilates ball that we are using for stretching. She also is doing exercises that help strengthen muscles. Next week she will be going back to PT for Ultrasouind therapy and some type of electrode therapy. Eventually she will work her way up to the hydro-treadmill.
The vet said that she should be able to get her muscle strength with no problems.
It is amazing what is available out there for amimals!!!
..........now we have to find some legwarmers and a sweatband for her for when she does her pilates work-out!
