I do the same with Bitsy. I sometimes put the cat's breakaway collars on her when we're at my parents so I can hear her jingle and know where she is.

Before you put it on, make sure that it does breakaway easily depending on your puppy's weight. Some breakaway collars don't "break away" all that easily. A 7 lb cat can easily get the breakaway collar to "break away" when it's needed whereas it'll be more difficult for a 7 lb dog. Cats have more muscles.
