I vote barrettes.
I like the flat ones, but my next step is to try the alligator clips.

I can't for the life of me get a bow on straight if it's on a band.

What I do is put in a latex band in the morning, then clip a pretty barrette bow in when we go for our walk. When we get home from our walk, I take the bow with the clip out (don't want Bitsy to accidentally choke on it), then I go to work. I never leave a bow on Bitsy when she's alone, I'd be too paranoid that she'd choke. I do leave the plain latex band in though.
