Awww...what a sad story!!! But from reading the news report it sounds like the boy thought the possum was dead then when it suddenly appeared to be alive it scared him and he hit it with the shovel. In any event, the poor possum is dead and those babies have no Mommy which is very sad. I would like to think that the boy was not being cruel but reacted because he was scared.
It sounds like the babies are in great hands!!!
