Lancelot who is 3 yo this month had mange when my DH purchased him. He is now very healthy and I don't regret not sending him back to that breeder.
It took months of giving him antibiotics and an allergy tab for itching, baths once a week in a special shampoo, but he was worth it. I wouldn't let this discourage you from adopting a pet from a rescue. I have two Yorkies, one Maltese and a s**t Tzu and Lance is the youngest of the bunch. There is a very special bond between the two of us, because of all the care he received.
I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
