Personally, I'm not a big fan of them. I was almost attacked by one when I was 6. To make a long story short, we were going through an open house and I bent down to say hi to the cute puppy and had my hand out for him to sniff and was about 3 feet away and he lunged at my face, growling, and I almost fell backwards into their pool. Needless to say I went hysterical.
My mom said that growing up one of the family's friends had a chi and it would always nip her heels. Darn lil ankle bitter!
I don't know if this makes a difference, but I've never had bad experiences with long haired ones. Their temperament seems a bit different.
