I saw this on CTV this morning about a 4 lb Yorkie who gave birth to 7 puppies.

If you go to this link www.ctv.ca, scroll down the page on the right hand side, you can see the story.

Amazing, isn't it? LOL

Here's another link to the story: http://www.simcoe.com/article/64678

Tiny terrier bears seven pups

There's an extreme case of puppy love in the Damiani household near Rosemont in these days. With seven, two-week old teacup Yorkshire terrier puppies stumbling over each other to eat, play and sleep, it's hard not to be charmed.

It was Feb. 10, when four-pound teacup Yorkshire terrier Tinkerbell had a litter of seven puppies.

"Her belly was so big it touched the floor," said Kim Damiani, Tinkerbell's owner. "This really is a miracle."

Damiani is convinced seven puppies for a four-pound dog sets some kind of record, but she can't confirm it.

What's so special about Tinkerbell? Damiani said it's a question most people are asking, but is adamant Tinkerbell doesn't have a special regime. Tinkerbell isn't on a unique diet, she eats Pedigree Pal, and nothing has changed since her first litter of three puppies with male Yorkshire terrier Noah, the same father of this litter.

Although Tinkerbell was big during the pregnancy, Damiani and the vet were both surprised to see her deliver seven puppies, only one of which was born naturally. The other six were delivered via Caesarian section by Dr. Arvind Kotecha at the Alliston Veterinary Services office.

"He said, 'oh my God. I think you hit the jackpot'," said Damiani.

All seven of the puppies are doing well and Damiani is anticipating their eyes will open within the week. That's when she expects the mischief will start.

"I had trouble keeping track of the three when they got big," she said. "I don't know how I'm going to do it with seven."

With short, dark fur, the puppies may look like more like Rottweiler puppies than Yorkshire terriers right now. Damiani said in a couple of weeks their fur will grow out and they'll be the fluffy puppies people expect to see.

As the puppies move around more, Damiani can see their personalities coming through.

The runt of litter has been dubbed Tiny Tim, one of the females is referred to as a gremlin because of the noises she makes, and the female that Damiani is keeping is Ally.

Spending so much time with the puppies Damiani is getting attached, even after vowing she wouldn't.

"I just love them, they're like my kids," said Damiani.

After the C-Section, Tinkerbell is also doing well. Damiani said Tinkerbell has been exhausted, but is a naturally good mom.

One day when Tinkerbell was left with the puppies alone, Damiani said she knew Tinkerbell was uneasy with the situation. When Damiani got home, Tinkerbell had hidden each of the seven puppies throughout the room, a natural instinct for animals.

The puppies won't be ready to leave mom until the end of April, but Damiani has been fielding calls from people interested in owning one of the seven. An offer has been made for $2,500 for one of the females and she expects the males to go for $2,000.

People interested in purchasing the puppies can call 705-435-6192.
