most smaller dogs are usually hooked up to a heart monitor to watch them better under sedation pain they can be given a shot or pills also fluids to awake quicker small dog spays usually have 3 or 4 sutures right under the belly button on a thin white line called the midline they usually stay overnight and go home the next afternoon but awaken about an hour or less after the surgery and removal from sedation actual surgery should take under about 30 minutes without any complications
