Wobie is a service animal, but he is not certified, because I don't feel the need to put us through a stressful training program. Also, the programs that train service animals for psychological disabilities are quite limited, and we'd have to go out of state.
A service dog must be specifically trained to perform a service to assist its handler with his or her disability. Wobie is trained to alert me to an oncoming panic attack, bring me medication, and intercept compulsive behaviors. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to justify the need for a service dog based on companionship and therapy alone. What services could the yorkie perform for your daughter?
Let me know if you have any other questions about service animals. I've done a lot of research...I definitely wish you good luck!
