I think it's important to remember, this is still very small Yorkie 2.5 lbs with a very small bladder. I would not be afraid to leave pee pads down at night. I don't think this confuses them. Yorkies are very smart dogs. He tried to tell you he had to go by barking, and you were too tired to listen (not blaming you by any means, lol), so he did the only thing he could do. I am not a great advocate of withholding water, I am a great advocate of pee pads, and they make training soooo much easier. Dog really enjoy going outside, and when given the opportunity they seem to choose outside. The pee pads can be used for emergencies when no one can take them outside. Poop training is different and it seems like it comes after pee training. Some dogs are more regular and go 5 minutes after they eat solids and are easier to train. Other dogs don't seem to have a clue and if they are within 5 feet of the pee pad that's good. Remember; do not to make any major decisions when you are exhausted. You need a good night sleep and some time, especially if this is the only reason you're thinking about rehoming. |
