Thanks YorkieUSA. I am treating Corky as though he has a food allergy and yeast infection until I get him to the vet. Unfortunately, the second vet recommended to us in Paris is also on holiday until 18 August. We have stopped all of Corkys treats and switched his meals to home cooked rabbit and green beans. Luckily rabbit is very easy to buy in France. It is found as easily as chicken. Whole, boneless, etc. I cooked it in a frying pan with a little olive oil and salt, that's it and Corky loves it! Also Corky's smell is almost completely gone, though why, I can't tell you. It is too soon to be reacting to his change in diet. Still any positive change is welcomed. His fever still comes and goes. I wait on the aspirin till he feels hot because I think it is upsetting his tummy a little.
We are bathing him in the vets medicated shampoo (leaving the foam on 15 minutes as told) and a little tea tree mixed in. He has become a secret scratcher since he has figured out that "mom" gets upset when he scratches, so when he wants to scratch he jumps off the sofa, goes down the hall and starts to scratch where I can't see him. When I follow him he stops and looks up guiltily and then follows me back to the family room. Poor baby, he always seeks to please.
Yesterday we had a shocking experience. We were walking a very fragile Corky only two blocks from our flat on his leash when a woman came running around the corner and picked up half his leash thus swinging him by the neck and swung him off the sidewalk and into the gutter on the street and then kept on running. I immediately went to see if Corky was OK, my husband ran after her and more than seven people poured out of the cafe in front of where it happened. One man commented in French "That is a sign of hysteria" the bartender shook his head and said "What goes around, comes around" and the waitress was on the verge of tears until I told her Corky was OK. He was cowering and shaken, but did recover within about 10 minutes. When my husband returned he said that he had insulted her and she said "I have to catch my train and anyway you should train your dog". Can you imagine? She never had said anything, "excuse me" "pardon" and there was room for her to run around us. Thank goodness Corky doesn't suffer from the trachea problem that so many yorkies suffer from. He could have died. We use a normal collar because he doesn't like the halter. I think that with the condition of his skin right now, it rubs him. We give him the choice before we go out and he always chooses his normal collar. |
