One of the problems with the UK and US standards is that they do not have a minimum weight - they just say "under (or up to) 7 pounds". That leaves the door open for breeding way down in size to suit perceived demand/fashion which could cause whelping difficulties and health/genetic issues further down the road.
There are some really tiny Yorkies in the UK and some of the smallest can be found on the public puppy sale websites. There are some tiny ones in the show ring. There may be some at Crufts, starting tomorrow. I seem to recall the Ozmillion line pups are still quite small, but the little ones do not seem to be as well favoured by the current crop of judges as the larger ones. |
