The reply that I posted was from YTCa, not AKC. This is what AKC sent me:
Dear Karen,
Good morning and thank you for writing the AKC. The colors that the AKC
accepts are allowed by the parent club. The official standard for each breed and any revision of the standard originates with the parent club, not the American Kennel Club. The membership of the parent club must vote on and approve the standard or revision before it is submitted to the AKC Board of Directors for approval.

You may want to contact the parent club concerning this issue. A list of
national clubs can be found on our website at http://www.akc.org/clubs/search/inde...nal&display=on

The parent club would be the ones to start allowing these to be registered with the AKC.
