Stanford I would say that Stanford is dignified, independent, cautious, and gruff (with a secret heart full of love).
I believe a lot of his personality may come from being out in the wild, on his own, from time to time. As well, he came from a home with lots of other dogs (5-6), very loud children (not their fault), and perhaps an owner who was less than interested in his best interests.
He does not give out trust easily. But he is showing signs of moving towards a more social and interactive dog. For example, he now wants to sleep in the bed with me and the other family members at night, whereas before he was just fine by himself in the living room, thank you. He is now coming when I call or gesture to him. And is dispensing a few face licks, more than before.
Whatever he is thinking, I think he is the best.
