My concern is: is it normal for a 7 week old yorkie to poop up to 8 times a day?? His stools are not solid, they appear to be loose. We feed him Purina Puppy Chow 3 times a day because that is what he was given prior to us taking him home. Could all this be from the worms and medicine or should I look at switching his food. I have never owned a dog so this is all very new to me. Thanks!
Are you feeding the Purina because that is what the breeder was feeding or
did you change yourself. If the breeder didn't tell you what she was feeding and
you a first time dog owner probably thought, I'll just buy some food, then
that could very well be the problem since this dog is so young and the
pup couldn't handle the change. You got some great advise on quality
food but if it were me I'd call the breeder and see what she had the pup
on and continue that until about 10 or 11 weeks and gradually add the
new food. These are tiny little delicate tummies. Welcome to Yorkie
Talk there is a ton of information here and most vets will let you call
them if you have a question. If it's loose stools and shes not drinking
water she could dehydrate very quickly. It would never hurt to call the
vets office and get an opinion there also. Good Luck I also agree this
pup was way too small to have been taken from it's mom - yorkies usually
go a 12 wks. I'm sure everything will work out and if you have other
questions be sure to ask - this is what the site is all about.
