Just talked to the vet again. I guess the blood transfusion didn't do too much for him. His red blood cell count was at 16,000 before the transfusion, and went up to 18,000, and is now back down to 16,000. So, they are going to give him more blood before they transfer him to the ER tonight. They will be keeping him on IV fluids tonight and watching his blood count and giving blood as needed. They did a test to make sure his kidneys are ok, and they still look fine, so that is good. He also ate a bowl of food and was trying to get his IV out so that is good too they said. So, for how low his blood count is he's acting surprisingly well. That gives me hope. The vet consulted with a specialist and he said that it can take 48-72 hours before they start turning around, and the most important thing in the mean time is to try to keep their blood level up and keep them stable. |
