When you take a deposit you should have a little deposit contract/receipt that says something like: Buyer paid ___ amount as a deposit on ___day. In the event that the buyer changes their mind about purchasing puppy, deposit will not be refunded. However, breeder reserves the right to change mind about sale for any reason at which point the deposit will be refunded. Something like that should protect both you and the buyer
