I agree with getting the book, you can probably even find it in the library.
I was 9 when my mom had "the talk" with me about how it works. Pretty honestly, I think there was even pictures involved. I never forgot and as a result when all my friends were fooling around in middle school, I was running the other way. I was 16 before I even considered kissing a boy.
