I paid $500 for my sick yorkie. We took him to the vet on day three and paid for medicines. I would definitely speak with your vet of choice before getting the little pup. If the side effects of surgery are low, I would probably go for it. Many vets won't even give toy dogs anesthesia from what I understand.
