I think it also helps to remember that the vast majority of college kids are still in the "ME, ME, ME" phase of life. Nothing else matters except their wants & needs. In his mind, he probably thinks that because he talks to you and you picked him up, that it is sufficient. Other than that, he's probably just thinking that being at Dad's is an open door to do whatever he wants during his "vacation".
Unfortunately, us Mom's love so unconditionally that we get taken for granted because they know we will always be there for them. Speak your mind & let him know how this hurts you. It isn't about a guilt trip, but about being responsible and sensitive.
