When my twins were 1 1/2 I wanted a Yorkie, but decided on a more sturdy breed - a Westie. He has been absolutley fabulous. They are very similar in looks (except for the color) yet a bit less talkative
I waited until just recently to get my Yorkie, as my twins are 9 now.
The todler age can be quite difficult with a very small dog. You'd have to work very hard at making sure the dog isn't played with too rough. If you're planning on kids soon, I'd suggest to wait. You'll have your hands full anyway
