You can have the chipping done at any age. I think when you put your baby in for their neuter/spay it's a good time to have it done while they are under. That is what I will do when Zoey goes in for her spay in a month or so. They say no anesthesia is necessary when given but personally I saw the needle and I would need anesthesia if it were me...ick.
Definitely a good thing and it will be just another piece of identification to keep them safe and be able to get them returned if they are lost.
