well first off, WELCOME! and congratz on your new baby =]
as far as the potty training goes, when I got Odie at 8 weeks also, i would take him outside every couple of hours and just let him sniff around and if he went then he went. i did use pee-pee pads for a couple of months and when i would hear him walking around on them i would immediately calls his name so he would look up and forget what he was doing and then take him outside
after those few months he realized what he was supposed to be doing! and now he goes to the door or comes and barks at me and jumps all over me to let me know lol
