Okay, so this is possibly a stupid question, but I am really bothered by something that happened to me last week and I would love some input.
While out running errands, I needed to stop by WalMart to pick up some cat litter. Well, I had Winston with me and it has been about 105 degrees here, so there was no way I was leaving him in my car - even for 5 minutes!
So I had him under my arm as I stepped into the store (remember, he's only 11 weeks/1 lb.) and the "Greeter" instantly started wagging his finger at me with this nasty look on his face. The only thing he said to me was "Uh Uh...not allowed" and then turned away.
I stood there kinda shocked and said "I'm just going a couple of aisles in - to the pet department."
"Nope...it's posted...state law...not allowed".
Okay, so my boyfriend and I stepped outside to look for a sign, which there was none, and my boyfriend peeked his head back in and told the guy "there is no sign out here that says we can't bring him in." The jerk just repeated himself, "State law...not allowed" with this
screw you kind of attitude.
Well, we went home and promptly called to speak to a manager. We were left on hold for 10 minutes before some sales associate came back on and took a message, and a manager never called us back!
I would understand if it was a Lab or Great Dane or something, but jeez!
I have searched the Oregon laws for anything regarding pets
carried into public businesses, and the only thing I can find relates to guide dogs.
I guess my question to you all is, what do you know about their ability to basically kick us out of a store for something that is not even posted as a restriction?
He acted like I was supposed to go leave Winston in the car, when the police reports in my town have shown at least 5 people a day reported for leaving dogs in the car in that same parking lot!!!
